Getting Started with BMSE

thats right folks, I have figured out how to work this stupid thing.

So far here is what you do:

1) Find ANY mp3, anything, I dont care.
2) Use a program called Sound Forge 9.0 and start cutting away (or skip this step and just use keysounds, I dont care, but I will figure that out eventually).
3) Cut whatever data from your mp3 and go to edit/paste special/to new. Afterwards, save it as a .wav and be sure to go to the very VERY first template that says "44.1 Hz, 16-bit PCM, Mono".

4) Be sure to get both BMSE and uBMplay (they are both on the same website and BE SURE TO EXTRACT THEM IN THE SAME DIR)

5) Load up BMSE, configure it so that uBMplay can view your work, so now, lets get started.

6) On the right side, you will see something that says "Wave#01", now load up your new wav file.

7) From there, drag your mouse to the right a bit, on the lower-part of your screen (known as the "status" screen), you will see the following co-ords "Position: 0Measure 0/32 (becuase there are 32 measures by default) BMG 01 (the first colume/cell of your bpm).

8) Now that you know where that is, click on the green pencil icon, single-click on your wav01 file (you should hear a preview at the same time, if not then dont worry about it) and lastly, click on the position that was mentioned in step #7.

9) Now, lets draw some notes: draw anything that is between (look on the top bar with "green text" when you do this) scratch-button #7. SO yeah, draw a few notes in, look to your left, you will see a little green "play" button. Test it out and wallah!!!, your first song with music.

10) Last but not least, if you look to your right, you will see a number of colums that are in the EXACT same sequence as the iidx buttons on the left, THIS is not double-mode (lol), this is where you can put extra keysounds.

In conclusion, I hope this has helped some people out (definately myself, considering I spend like 9 hours before I wrote this tutorial, I need sleep).

Video coming soon, once I get my capture card...eventually .

See yaz bye.

Good tutorial! I'll link to this from the IIDX:TE3 section also.

Although to anyone reading this just now, here's the links to the above mentioned programs used in the walk-through.

BMSE - http://ucn.tokonats.net/software/bmse/
uBMplay - http://ucn.tokonats.net/software/ubmplay/

The pages are in Japanese, but just scroll down each page until you see 'Download BMSE' or 'Download uBMplay'.

Also, the 'Convert to WAV' step can be skipped, as both BMSE and uBMplay support mp3 audio.

Wow, I've always wanted to make BMS files for songs, thank you guys so much! But I have 2 questions.

I am trying to make a non-keysounded BMS to a song, and I figured out how to create and test the notes, but I can't get the song to play on sync with the first note when I try to test it. Its like it keeps on changing.

For example: I put some notes on measure 1 and test it. The song doesn't start until measure 3.
So I erase the previous notes on measure 1 and make new ones on measure 3 expecting it to be on sync. When I go to test it, the song doesn't start until measure 4 or 5. And so on...it keeps on changing its mind on when its going to start the song. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or not.

My second question is, is there a way to play the song and chart and record the chart at the same time? Like in stepmania when you push ctrl+r, it will play the song and allow you to create the steps as the chart and song are going, so you're kinda recording it "live".

Again I sincerely thank the both of you

Hmmm.... looks like the walk-through is missing some things.... that's to be expected from a first version though

I'll try to clarify.

Assuming your song is assigned to #WAV01, in the Background Sound columns (beginning with B01) you'll have your '01' note marking the song start.

Now, click on #WAV02 (or any blank entry), and then place your notes in the main section ('02' notes should appear). Those notes won't make any sounds (You probably already knew all of this, but I'll keep it here for others who might be interested)

And I'm wondering, does your song have a peiod of silence when first played (in WinAmp or similar)? That might be the measure start weirdness if so

As for the 'live recording' thing, nothing supports anything like that... yet. I'll try working on something like that real quick (borrowing heavily from Be-Pachi Music's code), and depending on difficulty, I'll have it done sometime soon.

Hey guys I hate reviving an old thread but I'm having a little bit of trouble, I download bmse and ubmplay, and I put them in the same directory, but when i open bmse I get

"Run time error '339, Component COMDLG32.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

I was looking around the site for this file but couldn't find it :< any help on how any of you got this up and running would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
